This year through Lisa's work, we "adopted" four low income families for Christmas. Two are couples with children, one is a single dad with three, and another is a grandmother raising two. We've had quite a bit of donations of clothes and toys, and also just over $600 cash! We spent 4 hours on Friday night shopping with this money, and managed to get almost everyone a few gifts each. Yesterday we had friends over to help us wrap. (baiting with dinner of course lol) Today I'll be going out for the last few things, wrap them, and we'll drop everything off tomorrow.
It's been a rough year for us at home, and our gift piles are pretty small. But we have a roof over our heads, plenty to eat, and will be just happy for all of us to spend christmas day together. We're all grown adults here, and we know it's been a hard hear for all of us, but getting things for these families helps to bring happiness to us. Thinking that some kid wasn't going to have anything to open on Christmas morning was just too sad. I wish we could somehow be there to see their faces..but we know, and thats enough.

Have a wonderful Christmas! I agree that all of us who have a roof over our heads and food in our cabinets are blessed. I wish I had done something more this year for those who don't have all that I do. Looking forward to blogs in the new year.

Thanks for all the comments folks. This has made me feel more in the Christmas spirit than before. It's been rough here and neither of us was really feeling it. This brought it back.
I finished the shopping today, and got more donations. I'm not looking forward to more wrapping lol but I cant wait to drop them off.
Barb, I'm a big believer in karma. I never was for a long long time, but I learned the hard way. Someday I might share that story since it taught me so much.

Hey great website/blog!! I love to hear about other people in Ohio that "get it"! I only live in an old mobile home but still, I consider myself becoming more and more self sufficient and urban homesteading all the time. Grew 100 pounds of produce off my little raised beds, planted fruit trees and strawberries and raspberries, blueberries and grapes. Rehabbed my old home and own it outright. Doing lots of things that I can do... wishing I could get some chickens! (the manager says no...) and just saving up till I can get my own acreage! Love your wisdom and straight up thinking. We don't have to be extreme to be working towards sufficiency and treading a little lighter on the earth, eh? I figure baby steps work just as good a huge ones as long as you keep moving in the right direction! Keep up the awesome posts... I'm def bookmarking your blog!
